Air Filtration Systems:

Air filtration is very important to your health and to your equipment.  Air filters are installed on forced hot air, hydro air, and air conditioning and heat pump systems.  Air filters come in many sizes and efficiency ratings.  Most filters are installed on the return of your equipment.  Some are installed at the beginning of your return ducting.  When your system is started by the thermostats for either heat, cooling or fan on for circulation, air is moved across your filter where the small airborne particulates get trapped making the air that is recirculated through your equipment and into your home cleaner and healthier.

Advantages:  No moving parts; filters are a basic but very important piece of your equipment.  There are many types to fit any application.

Disadvantages:  There are no disadvantages to filtering your air.  It is necessary for  health and well-being.

Key System Features:

•  MEDIA
Is the filtering material used to collect the particles from the air.  The media determines how well the filtering system functions.

Air Filtration Systems we sell:

Aprilaire Filters

  • Aprilaire 5000 Electronic Air Filter
  • Traps 99% of airborne, mold and spore-sized particles
  • Eliminates 98% of airborne bacteria-sized particles
  • Removes 94% of irrespirable dust, dust which the EPA reports can trigger asthma
  • Captures 80% of airborne particles the size of tobacco smoke
  • Removes up to 80% of airborne virus-aized particles- something no other air cleaner in the industry can do!
  • Easy to maintain – requires infrequent replacement of filtering media and wiping down of ionizing wires – a process that can be completed in less than 20 minutes

  • Aprilaire 4200 Media Air Filter
  • Removes 97% of pollen, airborne dust and other large particles
  • Permanently traps indoor allergens that can lead to respiratory problems
  • Visibility and control allows you to monitor and control the air cleaner function through the home from a single, central location
  • Simple maintenance -- just replace the filtering media once per year.

Humidifiers:

When you think of dryness, do you picture the arid, wind-whipped sands of the Sahara?  The cracked, sun-baked earth of Death Valley?

It may surprise you to know that one of the driest places on Earth may be your home!  And, it’s this “desert dryness” that makes you feel uncomfortable, robbing moisture from your home, your furnishings, even your skin.

Even with the added moisture provided by normal household activities such as cooking, laundry, and showers, you can seldom achieve comfortable indoor humidity levels without a whole-house humidifier.  The recommended relative humidity is three to four times the humidity in an average North American home in winter..  If you do not reach optimal levels of humidity, you could be exposing yourself and your family to nose, throat, and skin discomfort.  Unhumidified heated air also dries out the wood in yur home, shrinking the framing around doors and windows.  Gaps can occur, allowing cold air in, making your home less energy efficient.  Dry air also causes wood floors and trim to separate, walls and ceilings to crack; it can harm expensive musical instruments and electronic equipment.  Dryness even weakens the joints of expensive furnishings.

Wilson Brothers HVAC recommends an Automatic Humidifier from Aprilaire and the TrueSTEAM Humidification System from Honeywell.

Aprilaire Automatic Humidifiers

Aprilaire offers the most effective humidification system available.  It automatically adjusts to outdoor temperatures, keeping the humidity at just the right levels.

Aprilaire features:

  • Five models to suit your needs and budget
  • Solid state electronics for total system reliability and precision
  • Automatic adjustments generating up to 50% more moisture than humidifiers using a manual control

Honeywell TrueSTEAM Humidification System:

Honeywell offers three TrueSTEAM models with limitless installation opportunities through its remote-mount capability.  This allows installers to mount the humidifier up to 20 feet away from the ductwork, making installation possible in tight spaces.

TrueSTEAM features include:

  • Fail-safe water sensing to increase the accuracy of water level readings and reduces the likelihood of mechanical failure
  • Incoloy 600 heating element that helps inhibit mineral bild-up by expanding and contracting as it operates
  • Condensate collect dome and nozzle that prevents water from condensing out of the unit and delivering only true steam into the airflow
  • Dual-action water valve automatically fills and drains when needed

Wilson Brothers HVAC recommends a high-efficiency air cleaner from Aprilaire and the UV-Aire Air Purifying System from field Controls.

Dehumidifiers:

Dehumidifiers can protect your health if your house is too moist.  Bacteria, viruses and fungi thrive in moist environments. Control of the relative humidity in basements and even your living areas can be very important.  Only dedicated dehumidifiers can effectively reduce excess moisture without over cooling your home.  By nature air conditioning removes humidity but if you have a major moisture problem you may need a self contained whole home or basement control system.  Aprilaire makes different models which can control your comfort.

Advantages:  The dehumidifier can be tied into an existing duct system if you have forced hot air for your heating.  A central dehumidifier can do much more than the portable units up to 135 pints each and every day.

Disadvantages:  The priceis higher than portable units because of the labor costs to install the ductwork.

Dehumidifier Systems we sell:

Aprilaire Dehumidifiers

  • Provides three times the moisture removing capacity of leading portable dehumidifiers – up to 135 pints or 16.88 gallons per day
  • No messy tanks to empty and clean – ever
  • Automatically senses moisture levels and maintains optimum humidity levels in your home, never too much, or too little and running only when needed
  • Switches automatically between whole-house dehumidification when central air-conditioning system is running, and localized dehumidification when your air-conditioning isn’t running

Energy Recovery Ventilation:

Energy Recovery Ventilation has become more important as buildings and homes get tighter and energy efficient.  Pollutants can build up in your home creating an uncomfortable and unhealthy environment.  An ERV brings fresh air from outside and removes stale polluted air to the outside while transferring heat and moisture.  Homeowners can benefit by controlling odors, pollutants and even moderating humidity.

Advantages:  ERVs provide year-round fresh air flow.  They have low operating and maintenance costs along with simple automatic control.

Disadvantages:  You may have to install vents to the outside of your house and route ducts to the ERV.

Energy Recovery Ventilation Systems we sell:

Bryant Evolution

  • Up to 84% energy recovery
  • Reduced humidity during cooling season
  • Reduced indoor air pollutants

Renewaire

  • Your best choice for green ventilation
  • RenewAire ERV units exhaust stale air
  • Bring in fresh air
  • Save energy year-round
  • Available in several different sizes depending on the size of your home

Heat Recovery Ventilation:

A heat recovery ventilator is an air exchange system that helps indoor air quality.  An HRV transfers heat, not moisture, when exchanging stale air to the outside and bringing in fresh air.  This ventilation system puts you in control of air quality, while making your home more energy efficient.

Key Features:

•  The heat exchanger “core” is the heart of the unit.  A fan moves air in and out of the HRV but the core exchanges the heat you have already paid for.

Advantages:  Ventilates newer and more energy efficient homes.  Gives you better air quality in any home.  Low cost, low maintenance.

Disadvantages:  More difficult to retrofit into an existing home, especially if you do not have forced hot air heating.

Heat Recovery Ventilation Systems we sell:

  • Bryant
  • Fantech

Ultra-Violet Lights:

Ultra-violet lights help improve the air you breathe.  UV lights are like the sun shining, killing microorganisms and disinfecting the air inside your home.  Mounted in the ductwork on your heating or cooling system, a UV light air purifier with a germicidal lamp will protect you from germs, bacteria, viruses, and other destructive bio-aerosols.

Advantages:  Easily installed in an existing HVAC duct system.  Treats the air and also neutralizes odors and other (VOCs) Volatile organic compounds.

Disadvantages:  Although these are self contained units, the best way to get the most out of your UV lights are in a duct system.

UV Light Systems we sell:

  • Generaliare
  • Renewaire
