GEOTHERMAL TECHNOLOGY: Use the energy produced from the earth! A customer told us about his passion for being environmentally responsible and wanted to take the next step by heating and cooling his home with geothermal heat pump technology. Geothermal heat pumps are self-contained systems that take advantage of the earth’s relatively constant, moderate ground temperature to provide heating, cooling and domestic hot water at a substantial savings in monthly utility costs! Our customer had lots of questions and we scheduled a home visit so that one of our experts on Geothermal heating and cooling could address each one with clear and concise answers. This was also an opportunity for the technician to explore the options of a groundwater, vertical loop, or horizontal loop installation. Wilson Brothers also discussed with the homeowner how to calculate the payback, energy efficiency, and total operating costs of a Bryant Geothermal system vs. a new forced air furnace and central air conditioning system. A Geothermal system can save you up to 80% on your energy bill and you can save even more with tax credits. You can save up to 30% off the total cost of installation with a recently implemented federal tax credit. You get to save money every month on your energy bill and significant savings off the cost of installation of a new system. The customer was pleased with his decision, knowing that his family reduced energy consumption while using an inexhaustible energy source – the earth. COMBINED HEAT & POWER SYSTEMS: Advanced technology answers the call A homeowner whose furnace needed replacing asked us for a solution that would not only heat his home, but would also address his and his family’s need for an environmentally sound system. They were proud of their “green” lifestyle and wanted to take the next step to reduce their carbon footprint. Wilson Brothers introduced this homeowner to Freewatt, the future of home energy --a co-generation system that uses advanced technology to combine the heat and power output for 90% efficiency AND the bonus of generating your own electricity! While heating the home, the Freewatt system also produces 1.2 kW of low cost green electricity. This electricity offsets the family’s electric usage and shows a significant decrease in electric bills. Here’s how it works: While generating electricity, the Freewatt recycles heat that is normally lost in the generation process. Freewatt is connected to an Energy Star rated furnace or boiler that is sized to maintain a comfortable temperature in the home year-round and is available for use with natural gas or propane. The Freewatt is powered by Honda’s advanced engineering and is ultra-quiet and extremely reliable. With it’s Internet monitoring system the homeowner can remotely check on electric usage and savings, as well as adjust the thermostat from work or while traveling! HYBRID SOLUTIONS: Heat Pumps for New England temperature fluctuations Here in New England, the temperature can be 36 degrees overnight and then rise to the upper 70s or low 80s the next day! How do we avoid using precious oil or gas to heat the home during these fluctuations? Our customer didn’t want to switch to heat when they would only have to turn the air conditioner on later in the day. Wilson Brothers recommended and installed an Evolution series Heat Pump by Bryant. Don’t let the name fool you – this is an air cooling system, but it also produces heat! It is a hybrid system that is very popular and highly efficient. Added to the existing forced hot air system, the heat pump provides a steady, even comfort zone with its two-stage compressor system. It cools in the summer while removing excess humidity in the indoor air. And when the temperature dips, it warms the home with quiet, reliable electrical operation, saving oil or gas. In addition, the system was eligible for a tax credit of 30% of the installed cost (up to $1,500) and a $600 rebate from their Electric Company. SOLAR ENERGY: Getting started going green With solar energy, you not only preserve valuable fuel and save heating costs, you also protect the environment by reducing the release of CO2 into the atmosphere. Our customer wanted to save money by using solar energy to heat his home and hot water, using an existing forced hot water boiler as a backup. Wilson Brothers recommended a high-performance solar heating system from Viessmannn that features solar panels that can be used on either a flat or sloped roof. Part of a fully integrated system, the Vitosol 200 includes the solar collectors and solar pump station. Installation was fast and our customer immediately began enjoying the benefits of comfort provided by the sun’s energy. In addition to reduced monthly fuel energy costs, the customer also enjoyed both state and federal tax credits which helped significantly reduce the installation costs.
